Auto Dialer/Email Announcements
March 20, 2017
Hello 8th grade Canyon Families –
As many of you are aware, Ms. Fisher, our wonderful 8th grade counselor, will be out on maternity leave through the end of the school year. We are wishing her a joyous and restful time with her new little one.
We are fortunate to have Ann Allocca who will be filling in for Ms. Fisher while she is out. Ms. Allocca has many years of experience working in middle school as a teacher, counselor and administrator. I am sure that you will find her response and supportive. Her email is firstname.lastname@example.org and her phone extension is 6134.
As always, feel free to reach out to me or one of the assistant principals if you have any questions or comments.
Outdoor school begins Monday. So, for the next three Mondays please be aware of the increased auto and pedestrian traffic as families see their children off to outdoor school.
We have a fairly normal schedule for March. Please be aware that March 21 is an additional early release day.
Also, March 12 is Daylight Savings “Spring Forward” the favorite team of the year when we “lose” an hour. Please plan accordingly so that you are not late for school.

As part of our commitment to student and campus safety, I wanted to inform you of a situation that was brought to my attention this afternoon. It was reported that a dark blue van attempted to approach one of our students in the lower parking lot. We notified law enforcement immediately to investigate the situation.
We will be reminding all students to always walk to and from school in groups and not to speak to strangers. As partners in our commitment to student safety, we hope you will take a moment to discuss safe behaviors with your children. I will be sure to keep you informed if there is any new information available regarding this situation. Thank you for your continued commitment to help us keep our campus safe for students and staff. Please feel free to contact my office if you have questions or concerns.

Hello Canyon Families – this is Principal Steinecke with a few messages for the next two weeks of school.
Please remember that this Thursday is a minimum day with a 12:30 release. The library will be closed Thursday after school for conferences. In addition, there is no school for students Friday and Monday.
Cookie dough is almost here! Pick-up will be on Thursday, 11/3 in the cafeteria after school. Any students who sold cookie dough must arrange for an adult to pick-up the orders. STUDENTS ARE NOT ABLE TO TAKE HOME COOKIE DOUGH BY THEMSELVES. An adult must sign for the items. Keep in mind that the cookie dough is frozen, so please have a plan for distribution when you get home! We are unable to store it here. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Hsu or Ms. Shen. Thank you for supporting your school!
Free flu shots available this Saturday at Castro Valley Elementary school from 11:30 – 6.
Boys Basketball tryouts are Nov 3-4 after school. Our Girls Basketball program runs after the Boys season and tryouts will be sometime in January.
Also, come out and support our Education Foundation at the annual Dynamic Dinner on November 4th at 6pm. I look forward to seeing you there.
Please look for my upcoming November Newsletter that will be emailed home at the beginning of November with more information about Canyon.

Good afternoon Canyon families and community. This is Principal Steinecke with a reminder about our first day of school, tomorrow, August 22. Please remember that Canyon will begin school at the same time as Creekside, so traffic around town will definitely be impacted. Once on campus, please utilize the lower lot for drop off and pick up paying careful attention to kids and other cars. Also, remember that areas marked as drop off only and red marked curbs are not for parking. In the lower lot drop off zone, the middle lanes are for driving. Drive slowly and use your turn signals. We all need to work together to keep our parking lots moving smoothly and our students safe. In addition, remember that students are not allowed to hang out on campus after school and must leave after school unless using the library or in a staff supervised activity. I appreciate everyone’s efforts to maintain a safe campus.

Hello Canyon Families and Community. This is Principal Steinecke with a few reminders and information for this week. Online registration – we noticed that many families are missing the “authorizations” link as part of the process. The authorizations include release of student information and 2 questions about student access. Please make sure that you have completed this step, and all 6 steps of the online data confirmation process. You will know you're finished when you receive a email from portal.cv.k12.ca.us with your data confirmation receipt. Our 6th grade families, our WEB orientation is Wednesday from 8 to noon. The times were different in a few places so I wanted to remind families that 6th grade orientation is Wednesday 8am to noon. For our 7th grade families, remember that your student needs to have their Tdap immunization record on file with the school. If you need, we will have a Tdap clinic tomorrow August 16 in the Canyon Health Office. Please be sure to get your immunization or turn in records prior to going through walk-through registration. Lastly, next Monday is the first day of school. Please review our new bell schedule on our website under "About Canyon" and plan accordingly. We are very excited about the new school year and thank you for sharing your children with us.
