2018 تحديثات التخرج

Dear CVHS Seniors and Families of Seniors,

This message is an update on planning and expectations for the upcoming graduation ceremony scheduled for June 7th, 2018. Please pay careful attention to the information below and communicate questions to house secretary Cathi Major (cmajor@cv.k12.ca.us).

Extra Tickets

We received 362 requests for extra tickets. The total number of extra tickets requested (these are tickets in addition to the 5 given automatically to each graduate) was 2,445. Unfortunately, there is not enough available seating to accommodate all requests. Each email associated with the requests will receive notification of the number of extra tickets they will receive. Some families requested one or two extra tickets. Other requested many more. We are distributing the extra tickets equitably so that as many needs are met as possible. The average amount that we were able to provide was five extra tickets per family. All graduation tickets will be distributed at the mandatory graduation rehearsal on the morning of graduation.

Please note that a ticket does not guarantee a seat. There are some areas around the fences where guests can stand.

Children over two years of age will need a ticket to enter.

We have received many requests for seating in the area reserved for guests with disabilities. Individual emails will go out to these families, confirming their requests and including directions for parking and entrance to the stadium. The plan is to have these notifications ready for families by the end of the first week in May.

A Few Key Items to Begin to Consider for the Big Day

Parking

Due to some significant construction on campus, parking will be tricky. There is no way that all families will be able to park on campus. Planning is currently underway to develop an offsite parking location, including free transportation to the campus. Plans are also in progress to ensure appropriate drop-off and parking options for guests with disabilities. Stay tuned for more information.

A Ceremony First, Celebration Second

Graduation from high school is a big step in our students' lives and a significant marker of the transition from childhood to adulthood. We are very proud of our graduates and the years of hard work leading to this ceremony. We celebrate not only our students, but also the families, relatives, and friends who have supported our students in their achievement.

It is important to remember that participation in the graduation ceremony is a privilege. It is of utmost importance that graduation be dignified, as befitting the accomplishments of our students. To support the dignity of the ceremony, there are some basic expectations:

  • Students will maintain acceptable behavior between now and the ceremony. Serious violation of school rules could result in the loss of the right to participate.
  • Students must participate in the graduation rehearsal on the morning of the ceremony. Student behavior should be appropriate during this rehearsal, and students should follow the directions given at the rehearsal during the real ceremony.
  • Students will be searched on the day of graduation before proceeding to the field. They will not be allowed to bring backpacks, purses, or any other type of bag, and will not be able to carry any other inappropriate items to the ceremony.
  • Decoration of caps, as well as school appropriate and/or culturally significant necklaces and cords will be allowed. Decorations which violate acceptable school messages will be confiscated and could result in removal from the ceremony.

Much more comprehensive information on expectations for graduation will be reviewed with students as part of a senior contract. All students will sign off that they have reviewed these expectations. This contract will be reviewed with seniors in mid-May.

Distribution of Diplomas

Real diplomas are not distributed during the ceremony, but instead at a later date. Diplomas will be available for pick up in house offices on June 8 and June 11. After these dates, they will be available in the office of the registrar.
