Intra/Open Enrollment April 3 - 28, 2017

Intra-District/Open Enrollment Transfers

Intra-district transfer requests are for students living inside the Castro Valley Unified School District (CVUSD) boundaries, to transfer from their resident elementary school to another elementary school within our district.  Some schools and grade levels will not have space available for transfer. A random unbiased lottery will be used when there are more requests for a school than there are spaces available.

The Intra-district  period will begin Monday, April 3, 2017.  Intra-district Transfer request forms must be turned in to the CVUSD office no later than Friday, April 28, 2017 by 4:00 p.m. at the district office. Download the form here by clicking this link  Intra-District Transfer Request Form. Intra-district request forms are also available at every elementary school or the CVUSD office, 4400 Alma Ave., Castro Valley, CA  94546.  Once an Intra-district request is approved, your student will remain at that school through 5th grade.

Please remember the timeframe for Intra-district Transfer requests is: April 3 - April 28, 2017 ONLY. Late applications will not be considered.

Inter-District Transfer Requests

Inter-District Transfer Requests to LEAVE Castro Valley

These requests are for students living inside the CVUSD boundaries wishing to attend a school outside of our district boundary lines. This transfer must be approved by CVUSD before it is sent on to the district which the student is choosing to attend. The transfer district also has to give their approval before the student is allowed to attend a school outside our CVUSD boundary lines. Student is considered a CVUSD student, and should continue attending school, until the student has been approved by the transfer district and withdrawal has been completed from CVUSD school.

The outgoing process for Kindergarten through 12th grade students begins at our District Office on April 3, 2017.  This transfer form is available in the Student Services office.  Please call 537-3000 x1209 for an appointment.

Inter-District Transfer Requests to ENTER Castro Valley

These requests are for students living outside the CVUSD boundaries wishing to attend a school in Castro Valley.  This process begins in the district in which you live.

This coming school year 2017-2018 CVUSD will be accepting Inter-district transfer applications  for Kindergarten through 5th grade.  For grades 6-12 due to space limitations we approve Inter-district transfer applications only as required by ed code and board policy.  You should continue with enrollment and attendance at your resident school until decision is made.

Castro Valley Unified School District accepts students on inter-district transfers based on the following criteria:

  • Students are accepted on a space available basis
  • A copy of the most recent report card must be submitted with the transfer request
  • Your child must have a C+ or better grade point average, with no D or F grades
  • Your child must have good attendance with no "cutting" classes and few or no tardies
  • Your child must not have any behavioral or discipline problems
  • All transportation will be provided and/or arranged by the parent

If during the school year any of the above conditions are not met or if school enrollment becomes impacted, the transfer will be canceled and your child will be sent back to his/her home district.  Also, once approved, please be advised, there is a possibility that when particular grade levels have impacted enrollment, your student may be moved to another school.  This movement would only occur once per child.

If you wish to apply for an Inter-district transfer, you must initiate the request in your home district. We begin receiving Inter-district requests in our office April 3, 2017. We will evaluate your request along with our enrollment projections during the summer. We will make every effort to either approve or deny requests before the start of the school year. In some instances, we may not be able to determine if we can approve the request until the second week after school begins.

If approved by the Castro Valley Unified School District, complete the following enrollment form,  take your approved inter-district application and the completed enrollment form to the assigned school:
