Dear Castro Valley Unified School District Community,

As I approach my second year in Castro Valley Unified School District, I wish to thank the Board of Education, staff and the community for their incredible support of our students and what we have been able to accomplish as a team this year. I truly believe in Nelson Mandela’s words that there can be no keener revelation of a society's soul than the way in which it treats its children. When we place such great value in supporting students, working together as a team, we are able to accomplish much. In addition to the many wonderful things that occur in each and every classroom and school on a daily basis, following are just a few highlights of our accomplishments as a community:

  • Passage of Measure G, a G.O. bond to improve school facilities throughout the District;
  • Development of our new strategic plan;
  • Robust professional development in literacy, math, culturally and linguistically responsive teaching, response to intervention and technology;
  • Comprehensive Local Control Accountability Plan;
  • Full implementation of the Common Core State Standards in Mathematics and English Language Arts;
  • Receiving a California Career Technical Education Incentive Grant (CTEIG);
  • Gearing up for a new pathway, Project Lead the Way Engineering, at Castro Valley High School in the fall;
  • Summer Career Pathway program for middle school students (digital arts and design, computer science, engineering, and biomedical science);
  • An implementation plan for the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS);
  • Canyon re-designated as one of only 20 schools on the CA “Schools to Watch” List ;
  • Castro Valley, Marshall and Palomares Elementary Schools designated as “2016 Gold Ribbon Schools”;
  • Redwood High School designated as a “California Model Continuation School” (one of only 39 in the State);
  • Adult and Career Education Center and Redwood High School received clear six-year WASC Accreditations; and
  • Expansion of Virtual Academy.

Our students continue to make us proud by working hard, making good decisions and impacting the world positively. It is my pleasure to serve over 9,300 exemplary students, stellar staff, visionary Board of Education, and a wonderfully supportive and engaged  community.
