Jensen Ranch Elementary School is a very special school where everyone plays an important role. Our goal is to provide a quality educational program for your child in an atmosphere where each child is valued and treated respectfully. High standards are set for behavior and academic performance. The best possible climate is achieved when the home environment and school are mutually supportive.
With just a few short days until our Walkathon, I just wanted to reiterate how we plan to spend our fundraising dollars this year. If you did not get a chance to read through last week's Round-Up to see our technology plan, here it is again in it's entirety.
How you can help Jensen Ranch Walk and Roll to new Computers!!!!
The inventory is done and our worst fears have been confirmed! Jensen Ranch needs a major technology makeover! Listed below is our current technology state.
Some of computers are not working.
There are 11 non-working computers (desktops and laptops) that need to be replaced immediately. Many more work only sporadically.
Most of the computers are outdated.
Out of a total of 98 desktops and 21 laptops at Jensen, 56 were built between 1999 and 2005 and should be replaced immediately, due their age. More computers will need to be replaced in the next year or two.
Some of these dinosaurs are even running Windows 98 and the rest are running Windows XP. The majority of the computers at Jensen do not have the capacity to be upgraded to Windows 7.
All the laptops have non-working parts.
None of the laptop batteries hold a charge; therefore making them useless in the classroom.
How the technology plan unfolds will directly depend on your generous contributions to this year's Walkathon.
If we reach our goal of $50,000:
- We could replace all of the non-working and outdated computers with refurbished "Dell OptiPlex 755" desktops, running Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2010.
- We could upgrade the remaining computers to Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2010.
- We could purchase approximately 40 refurbished "Dell Latitude E4300" laptops, running Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2010 for classroom use.
If we raise more than $50,000:
- For each additional $400.00 above $50,000, we could purchase a netbook for the 5th grade classes, with the goal being to equip every student with their own netbook for research and word processing projects in class.
- We could explore other devices such as iPod touches or Android tablets for their instructional benefit.
If we are unable to reach our goal:
- We will have to stage our purchases which means many of the needs will be delayed for several years; therefore making the teaching and learning process much more difficult.
