Principal's Message

March 2018

Dear Jensen Jaguar Community,

Welcome to Jensen Ranch Elementary School, home of the Jaguars! Jensen Ranch serves approximately 425 students in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade and their families.

Jensen Ranch School is dedicated to establishing and maintaining a learning environment where school, community, and individuals work together in an atmosphere of open communication, respect and creative spirit to foster an expectation of excellence, responsibility and life-long learning.

We are dedicated to helping every child achieve excellence by:

• Achieving goals of education by providing for mastery of academic skills, the development of critical and creative thought, and an openness to life-long learning;

• Promoting and modeling excellence and personal best;

• Recognizing the unique value of each individual while nurturing the social, emotional, physical and intellectual growth of each student;

• Encouraging the development of self-discipline, responsibility, cooperation, compassion, and consideration of others within our classrooms, school, and community; and promoting a partnership between home, school, and community.

Families are critical members of our jaguar community and I encourage you to be involved in your child’s education.  Come and volunteer in a classroom or the library, join our PTA, and/or participate in school activities.  Information on our outstanding Jensen Ranch PTA can be found our website under the parents tab.   Please take time to review the PTA page and consider actively participating in this vital organization.

Jensen Ranch has a rich tradition of excellence. In 2002, 2008, and 2012, Jensen Ranch was honored as a California Distinguished School.  In 2013, Jensen Ranch was awarded the National Blue Ribbon Award by the U.S. Department of Education.  Jensen Ranch is regularly recognized by the California Business for Education Excellence (CBEE) for academic excellence and closing the achievement gap.

On behalf of the Jensen community, we welcome you and look forward to partnering with you to make this an exceptional year!

April Wong

Jensen Ranch Elementary Interim Principal

About Ms. Wong

I am honored to be joining the Jensen community and I’m committed to maintaining the legacy of excellence that our school is known for and looking forward to working in partnership with all of you to make that a reality for our students.

I am a proud graduate of Castro Valley schools, starting in Kindergarten and through my graduation from CVHS, after which I attended UC Davis.  There, I completed my Bachelor’s Degree in History and Political Science and my Master’s Degree in Education. I began my teaching career in Burlingame at a middle school for four years and moved on to teach at Canyon Middle School here in Castro Valley for six years before serving as Assistant Principal there for the last four years.  As for this new opportunity to serve as your Interim Principal, I am looking forward to working with all of you together, as I have a strong belief in the importance of building a community of support for our students.

In the short time I’ve been on campus, I am already inspired by the great work of our teachers and dedication of all our support staff, and I’ve felt the care and support of our families, as well as the energy and enthusiasm of our kids.  Starting with morning drop off, to classroom lessons, snack times and recess, rainy and sunny day lunches, to Friday Flag, to events like our Talent Show, every day is one that is full of learning opportunities, ways to connect with others, and to continue being PAWSitive!  Thank you for the opportunity to be a part of it all.
