Independent Elementary School and Proctor Elementary School Receive 2018 California Distinguished Schools Award

Castro Valley, CA – (April 3, 2018) – State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson announced Monday that Independent Elementary School and Proctor Elementary School have been named two of the elementary schools that have received the 2018 California Distinguished Schools Award.

The Distinguished School Award, known last year as the Gold Ribbon School Award, recognizes schools that have made significant gains in implementing the academic content and performance standards adopted by the State Board of Education, including standards for English Language Arts and Mathematics, California English Language Development Standards, and the Next Generation Science Standards. This year, elementary schools that made significant gains in implementing State Board policies and their Local Control and Accountability Plan were eligible to apply.

Superintendent Parvin Ahmadi said, “ Congratulations to Independent Elementary School and Proctor Elementary School students, staff and families! This recognition is the result of strong focus on student achievement,  teaching and learning, support services available to students, and wonderful parent involvement.”
