Castro Valley Teacher Named 2009 Alameda County English Learner Teacher of the Year
The Alameda County Office of Education has selected Lee Ann Chinn, a Canyon Middle School teacher, as the English Learner Teacher of the Year. This award recognizes Lee Ann as a teacher who makes outstanding contributions to improve the lives and educational achievement of English language learners in Alameda County.
Ms Chinn is a special teacher who makes a difference in students’
lives on a daily basis. Her commitment to students, their parents, her
school and her profession is evident to everyone who knows her. A 20
year veteran of the Castro Valley Unified School District, Lee Ann is a
fully credentialed English teacher, who not only teaches English
Language Development classes but is actively involved in the ELAC
(English Learner Advisory Committee) and PALMS (Postsecondary Access
for Latino Middle-Grades Students). She has served as Activities
Director as well as the newspaper and yearbook advisor.
At Canyon Ms. Chinn is masterful at engaging and supporting English
language learners, but she was not satisfied with devoting herself
solely to student success at Canyon. Lee Ann recognizes that in order
to do the most good for the most English language learners, she needs
to be involved at the district level. She works to support and coach
other CV teachers as the District’s English Learner Instructional
Support Teacher and has been instrumental in developing and
implementing the Castro Valley English Learner Plan. Her commitment is
exemplary! Lee Ann is the consummate professional, demonstrating a
commitment to her students and to her colleagues all the while
demanding excellence of herself.
Congratulations to Lee Ann Chinn – Alameda County’s EL Teacher of the
Year
