Mary Cummins Honored as Teacher of the Year
The California League of Middle Schools recently honored Creekside teacher, Mary Cummins, as the Region IV Teacher of the Year.
The California League of Middle Schools (CLMS) recently honored Mary Cummins, Creekside Math teacher, as the Region IV Teacher of the Year. Mary was nominated by a colleague at Creekside Middle School and she then had to complete an application. The final step in the selection process was a five-minute speech at the CLMS Awards Dinner on December 10th at St. Mary's College. Final winners for the CLMS Teacher of the Year will be selected at the end of February.
Mary has been an educator for 29 years and at Creekside Middle School for 13 years. Excepts from her nomination papers include:
- Mary Cummins is an outstanding educator who brings enthusiasm and a passion for teaching to our campus every day. She is professional, collegial, and conscientious; all of which are great qualities for a middle school teacher. Since Creekside opened, Mary has made an intense commitment to the students and staff as a 6th grade math/science teacher and, most recently, as a 7th grade mathematics teacher.
- All of her lessons are designed to connect students' prior knowledge, life experiences, and interests with learning goals. Moreover, they create opportunities for diversity and differentiation that promotes self-directed, reflective learning for all.
- Mary Cummins is a remarkable educator who teaches with her heart and soul, admired by students, and deeply respected by her colleagues.
