Will the embers of an old flame lead Amy in a new direction in her life, or does she marry Paul as planned because he is the best fit for her?
The song and dance numbers in the show represent highlights from previous pops concerts over the past 10-15 years, cleverly woven into the story by our student writing team. Story Synopsis: Alice in Won-DEAF-land
When the story begins, Marissa, a seemingly sophomore high school student, is sitting in a classroom with her peers on the day they are supposed to present their future career choices. Unfortunately, Marissa must also complete an assignment for her ASL class, which conflicts with her ability to undertake her career presentation: she is "deaf for a day." Emotionally conflicted, she steps forward to make her presentation, and in doing so, she faints. Suddenly, a white rabbit shoves her into a school locker (which turns out to be a magician's box) sending her to a mysterious world where she becomes Alice. Alice's task is to find her "true voice." However, in this world, everyone speaks sign...everyone except the Queen of Hearts, who has taken a hard stance on "oralism" in order to "fix" her Deaf daughter, Rose.
As the story unfolds, Alice meets many characters as she makes her way through Won-DEAF-land--some who have helped shaped Deaf culture, and others who have tried to destroy it. It is in this world that Alice learns what it means to be an advocate--not only for others, but more importantly, for herself.
Alice returns to her own world, once-again as Marissa, only to discover that she is not a sophomore, but a senior sitting in her ASL classroom, and that she had been asleep the whole time. She realizes that her dream was a reflection of her past fears and her inability to express herself as a younger high school student. As a senior, she is getting ready to graduate and she is armed with not one, but two ways to communicate, a knowledge of advocacy, a feeling of achievement, and a sense of pride.
