How do I enroll my student in a Castro Valley school?
The enrollment process begins at your home or resident school. The
two links below will help you determine your resident school.

In order to enroll your child in a Castro Valley school you will need to complete residency verification. The necessary forms for residency verification are available for download below. Complete your residency at your school site.
If you have any questions regarding the information needed to enroll your child, you may contact the school office. If you have special circumstances and are unable to provide any of the documentation below, please contact the Student Services department at (510) 537-3000 ext. 1209.
If your neighborhood elementary school is full, you may be placed at another CVUSD elementary school.
Special circumstances may require you to process your
residency at the district office, please note our designated residency
verification hours:
Monday & Wednesday: 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Tuesday & Thursday: 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Friday: 8:15 AM - 10:00 AM
Step 1: Proof of Residency
Residency verification must be completed for Kindergarten, all continuing 6th grade and 9th grade students, all students who are new to the district, and any family who moves throughout the year. You must submit original documents. Online printouts of your bills with your name and address are acceptable. Post office box addresses will not be accepted. Incomplete residencies will not be accepted. To prove residency, bring the following documents to your home or resident school:
Homeowners/Renters:
- Complete the Statement of Residency (Click to download pdf form)
- A current P. G. & E. bill in your name showing residence property address and the service address, (page 3).
- And any one of the following (that shows the
current local address):
- EBMUD water bill
- Waste Management bill
- telephone bill
- DMV Vehicle Registration or vehicle insurance bill
- A current CA Driver's License / ID card for identification
purposes only.
Declaration of Residing with Another Party:
This Declaration must be accompanied with a Statement of Residency by the Homeowner/Renter. In addition, the parent/guardian needs to fill out the Declaration of Residing with Another Party and provide two bills proving their residency at this address. These items may include phone bill, cable bill, credit card bill, vehicle insurance. The parent/guardian's California Driver's License will also be required for identification purposes only. Declaration of Residing with Another Party. It is the parent's/guardian responsibility to notify the school secretary/registrar within five school days if my child or I move from this address. Falsification of residency will result in my liability for any excess costs incurred by the District. Additionally, my child will be disenrolled and referred to his/her resident district for enrollment. Intradistrict or interdistrict transfers may not be approved if parent/guardian has falsified residency.
Step 2: New Student Enrollment Grades 1 - 12
ALL new student enrollment for grades K-5 begins at your resident school on March 1, 2012. New student enrollment for grades 6-12 begins April 1, 2012.
The following documents are mandatory to enroll a new student in Grades 1-12:
- Child's original birth certificate
- Child's immunization records
- Transcript for students grades 6-12
- Withdrawal Form and grades - Grades 6-12
- The Student Enrollment Form
- The Health History & Physical Exam Form - Grade 1
If you answered any other language other than English on the Enrollment Form / Home Language Survey section, you must complete the Informal Primary Language Assessment Form
Kindergarten Enrollment
On March 1, 2012, Kindergarten enrollment will begin for the 2012/2013 school year. A child is eligible to begin Kindergarten if his/her fifth birthday falls on or before November 1, 2012. The enrollment process begins at your home or resident school.
Sibling Enrollment - Kindergarten Siblings of current CVUSD students
are guaranteed enrollment at their siblings school for the 2012-2013
school year, if the application is received between February 23,
through February 29, 2012. Residency verification must be
completed during that time.
The following documents are mandatory to enroll your incoming Kindergarten Student:
- Child's original birth certificate
- Child's immunization records.
- The Student Enrollment Form
- The Health History & Physical Exam Form
- The Oral Health Assessment/Waiver Request Form for a dental check done no earlier than 12 months before your child enters school. (An Oral Health Program explanation letter can be viewed online).
If you answered any other language other than English on the Enrollment Form / Home Language Survey section, you must complete the Informal Primary Language Assessment Form
Middle School Registration - Continuing Students
Middle school (Canyon and Creekside) enrollment will be begin on March 10, 2012 for the 2012/2013 school year. Bring the Application Form for Sixth Grade (see below) to the middle school that you would like your child to attend. Applications are due by Friday, March 23, 2012. If an application is not submitted, your child will be assigned to one of the middle schools.

Siblings - Fifth grade siblings of current sixth, seventh, or eighth grade students are guaranteed enrollment at their sibling's school for the 2012/2013 school year. Bring the Sibling Application form (see below) to the middle school where the student's siblings attend. These applications are due by 4:00 p.m. Friday, March 9, 2012.

Intra-District Transfer
These procedures are for new students living within the CVUSD boundaries wishing to attend a school other that their neighborhood school. Effective March 2011, students no longer need to reapply annually. Your child is now a resident of the new school and will remain at that school through 5th grade. If you choose to have your student return to your neighborhood school site, please contact your school office immediately. Be prepared to renew your residency verification. All forms for residency and transferring back Intra-District Transfer Request Form to your neighborhood school are on our web site.

Inter-District Transfer Requests to Leave Castro Valley
These procedures are for students living inside the CVUSD boundaries wishing to attend a school outside of our district boundary lines. This transfer must be approved by CVUSD before it is sent on to the district which the student is choosing to attend. The transfer district also has to give their approval before the student is allowed to attend a scho0l outside our CVUSD boundary lines.
The outgoing process for Kindergarten through 12th grade students begins at our District Office on April 16, 2012.
Inter-District Transfer Requests to Enter Castro Valley
These procedures are for students living outside the CVUSD boundaries wishing to attend a school in Castro Valley.
Castro Valley Unified School District accepts students on inter-district transfers based on the following criteria:
- Students are accepted on a space available basis
- A copy of the most recent report card must be submitted with the transfer request
- Your child must have a C+ or better grade point average, with no D or F grades
- Your child must have good attendance with no "cutting" classes and few or no tardies
- Your child must not have any behavioral or discipline problems
- All transportation will be provided and/or arranged by the parent
If during the school year any of the above conditions are not met or if school enrollment becomes impacted, the transfer will be canceled and your child will be sent back to his/her home district.
If you wish to apply for an inter-district transfer, you must initiate the request in your home district. We start receiving inter-district requests in our office after spring break beginning April 16, 2012. We will evaluate your request along with our enrollment projections during the summer. We will make every effort to either approve or deny requests before the start of the school year. In some instances, we may not be able to determine if we can approve the request until the second week after school begins.
