Superintendent’s Message

To the Castro Valley Community:

On behalf of the Board of Education, our administrative team, and our outstanding certificated and classified staff, I welcome you to the 2011-2012 school year.  As a district team, we are committed to providing every student with a high quality educational experience.  I am looking forward to another exciting and productive year.

 Jim Negri

I am honored to serve as superintendent of a district with a long tradition of academic excellence and a commitment to ensuring that all students are not only successful learners, but become contributing citizens.  While our district STAR scores clearly demonstrate that our students are learning, we also recognize that there is always room for growth.

Educating every student must be and will be our number one priority.  We consistently strive to provide our students with a high quality education that appropriately meets their academic needs, but acknowledge that a quality experience must go beyond just the classroom.  When a student walks across the stage at graduation, we will have provided that student with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to be successful in whatever the student chooses to do – whether it be college, technical school, the military, community service or the work world.

In a world where our students will have multiple careers, not jobs, but careers, we must prepare our students to be life-long learners.  I am pleased to work with dedicated individuals who share this strong commitment to our students.  I am extremely pleased that the district provides an expansive and vibrant Adult and Career Education program as well.

The California budget crisis has created and will continue to create challenges for the district, but due to outstanding fiscal management by the Board of Education, we continue to offer our students high quality programs.  We cannot allow the state budget crisis to deter us from our mission – educating every student.

As administrative, certificated, and classified staff, we all are honored to serve the students of Castro Valley and their families.  We definitely want to engage you in the learning process.  Parental involvement is critical to student success.  Our principals and I are committed to providing you with timely and useful information regarding the schools and district.  The school and district websites are excellent sources of information.  Sign up for one of the many school and district e-newsletters to keep informed throughout the year.

Castro Valley residents are passionate about education and hold high expectation for student success.  There is a strong partnership between our schools, parents, and community that is essential to the success of all students.  I strongly encourage every parent to become actively involved in your school’s PTA or Parent Club.  Your involvement will make a difference.

Additionally, the district is extremely fortunate to receive support from our foundations (CVAF, CVEF, CVSF, and SOSCV!) and community support organizations (CV CAN, MPS) that provide invaluable resources for our students, staff, and schools.  These organizations welcome the support and involvement of parents and community members.  I encourage you to learn more about these organizations and become involved.

I look forward to personally meeting you during the coming year at one of our schools or in the community.  If you see me at a school or in the community, please take a moment to introduce yourself and share your thoughts about the district and the education that we are providing.

Sincerely,

Jim Negri, Superintendent
