The planned power outage is still in effect and power at Jensen Ranch, Palomares, and Proctor Elementary Schools and Canyon Middle School is currently still shut off as a part of PG&E’s Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS).

Based on the most recent information we have from PG&E, they are currently inspecting portions of Alameda County to ensure lines are free of damage and safe to energize before power can be restored (inspections only occur during daylight hours).

We will update you by 6 a.m. tomorrow morning confirming if schools are open or closed. All other CVUSD school sites not listed will remain in session.

Public Safety Power Shutoff Updates (10/9/2019 @ 2:00 p.m.)

Based on the most recent information we have from PG&E regarding the Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS), all CVUSD schools will be open tomorrow, Thursday, October 10.

As of 1 p.m. today, PG&E has pushed back the shutoff to 8 p.m. tonight in Alameda County. Please keep in mind that, as we have seen, this information is fluid based on changing weather conditions. PG&E is making the decisions for its customers. Jensen Ranch, Palomares, and Proctor Elementary Schools and Canyon Middle School were on the list to have their power shut off, those schools were closed today. However, PG&E did not shut off power at any CVUSD schools today.

Please plan on having your children attend school tomorrow with a contingency plan in case we have to close schools due to a power shutoff.

The safety of our students and staff remains our first priority. We will continue to provide updated information as it becomes available to us via emails, texts, and the website.

UPDATE (10/8/2019 @ 8:36 a.m.)

As of this morning, the schools that may be affected are: Jensen Ranch, Palomares, and Proctor Elementary Schools and Canyon Middle School. We will keep you updated as information becomes available.

Dear CVUSD Families:

Today, October 7th , CVUSD received a Public Safety Power Shutoff advisory due to expected gusty winds and dry conditions, combined with a heightened fire risk. We were notified that PG&E may need to turn off the power for public safety in approximately 36 to 48 hours (morning of Wednesday, October 9th).

As we continue to monitor conditions, please prepare for outages that could last longer than 48 hours. The district has no control over when and where these shutoffs may occur and may not receive any other advance notices.

Currently, we are continuing with business as usual and school will remain in session. If power is shut off before school starts, we will notify you through SchoolMessenger and our website.

If power is shut off during school and we need to close schools, we will also attempt to notify you through SchoolMessenger and our website. Normal dismissal procedures will be followed should we close schools early. We will have supervision until all students are picked up or have gone home.

As always, the safety of our students, staff and our school community is our top priority. We will keep you apprised of additional information as it becomes available.
