Measure G - Bond Program
The Castro Valley Unified School District takes pride in providing all students at each of our 15 schools with a quality education that prepares them for success in the 21st-century workforce. The District has undertaken a comprehensive facilities master planning process focused on community engagement to determine facilities needs at each of our schools.
At the February 25, 2016 Board Meeting, the Board of Education approved the Castro Valley Unified School District Facilities Master Plan (FMP). The Facilities Master Plan is a comprehensive plan identifying facility needs at all sites. The complete Facilities Master Plan is available here. After considering other potential available funds, there was a need for $123 million to address the identified facility needs. The list of needs include improvements related to health and safety, heating and air conditioning, roofs, lighting, fields, and playgrounds in addition to the expansion and upgrades of multi-purpose rooms, classrooms, and improved access for the general community.
After passage of Bond Measure G, the $123 million General Obligation Bond approved by Castro Valley voters in the June 7, 2016 election, the Castro Valley Unified School District Board of Education appointed 12 seats (7 members with 5 alternates) on the Bond Measure G Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee (CBOC) at the September 22, 2016 board meeting.
The purpose of the Committee is to inform the public and the Board concerning the expenditure of bond revenues per Education Code section 15278 (b), and to ensure that such bond proceeds are expended in accordance with the intention of the voters and state law. The Committee will be actively involved in gathering bond related information and advising the Castro Valley Unified School District Board of Education on all bond related matters. The Committee will act in an oversight capacity on all bond related proposals and expenditures.
Jo A.S. Loss, Vice President at that time, said in a letter addressed to the committee members, “On behalf of the governance team, thank you for applying for the Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee. This committee is an important link in communicating to the community the responsibility to perform the work promised in the bond. We take that responsibility seriously and are pleased that the committee will be part of the bond activity. I believe that Measure G is the largest bond that Castro Valley has approved. It is important that it is implemented well and the results include superior facilities and technology for all students and staff. The committee will have a large impact on the message received by the community and the future culture of CVUSD.”
